Sheri Bailey did her masters work at UCLA in playwrighting. She was recently elected to the School Board in Portsmouth, Virginia where she lives with her daughter Peyton and their dog Max. Sheri has taught at the University of Southern California, Old Dominion University, and the Governor's School for the Arts. She is the winner of numerous awards and competitions including three NAACP Theatre Image Award nominations for "Best Playwright." Sheri was the recipient of a 1993 NEA Individual Theatre Arts Fellowship. Her six play cycle Summers in Suffolk a City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs grant in 1995 and grants from the Louisiana State Arts Council in 1997 and 2002.  In 1992 a workshop production of A Summer Romance and A Summer Memory, (acts 3 and 5 of the Summers in Suffolk cycle) was presented at the Taper, Too's "New Works Festival" produced by the Mark Taper Forum.  The world premiere of the complete Summers in Suffolk cycle was presented by the Towne Street Theatre in 1996.

Ms. Bailey's credits include over 30 productions of the following plays: Southern Girls, published by Dramatic Publishers and co-written with Dura Temple; Dannie n' Laurence; Mayhem at the Red River Bar; Walking with a Panther, Passing (an adaptation of the Nella Larsen Harlem Renaissance novel commissioned by the Towne Street Theatre) and All Kinds of Blue. Her screenplay adaptations of All Kinds of Blue and Dannie 'n Laurence were respectively optioned by Jasmine Guy and Halle Berry. Sheris most recent plays include A Great and Dismal Swamp, commissioned by ODU and Abolitionists' Museum, starring Abe Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, John Brown, Nat Turner, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, David Walker and Harriet Beecher Stowe, which is touring southeastern Virginia middle and high schools.  Ms. Bailey is  the founder of SB Ink and the Hampton Roads Juneteenth Festival.
